My approach is unique, so I'll share more about my process and what is included in my editing package:

—AN ALL-INCLUSIVE FEE:

I don’t charge for each revision, as I feel that puts way too much pressure on a process that is highly creative. Instead, I charge a flat fee, and then I’m by your side for as long as you need me until we're both happy with the end result. You’ll never have to worry about being nickel-and-dimed for anything.

—A COLLABORATIVE, HANDS-ON APPROACH:

I’ve found that many editors point out lots of issues, then they’re gone. This is very overwhelming for authors, who usually have no idea HOW to fix all the problems that have just been brought to light. This editing style often does more harm than good. So I offer a totally collaborative approach, including one-on-one guidance and help. Rather than just pointing out what's not working, I give very thorough explanations, give loads of examples, and even help brainstorm when you feel stuck or need someone to chat through ideas with.

—A SUPPORTIVE, FLEXIBLE ENVIRONMENT:

I recognize that every writer has their own process, and everyone learns and works in different ways, so my goal is always to create an environment that supports what each individual needs. For example, I have some clients who prefer for me to send voice memos when we're talking about some of the meter issues, rather than type out notes, so they can hear the emphasis in my voice. Others are more visual learners. I also have some clients who like to be given all the information and go work at solving it on their own…and others who prefer more back-and-forth brainstorming, etc. So I’m incredibly flexible on whatever makes things the most helpful for each person.

—COPY EDITING:

While I'm primarily a developmental editor, I do include a round of copy editing for free when we're done with all of the developmental edits. I still highly recommend hiring a separate proofreader after you're done with the illustration and design phases, in order to make sure nothing was overlooked and that no typos sneak in when the text is being placed on the pages.

—RHYME & METER MASTERCLASS PLUS PERSONALIZED COACHING:

For rhyming stories, my fee also includes access to a course I created—The Rhyme and Meter Masterclass—which covers all the basics of rhyme and meter, pitfalls to avoid, helpful examples, and much more.

It will lay the framework of knowledge and terminology you’ll need for us to dive into your story together.

In addition to the course, my fee covers Meter Coaching as well. “Meter coaching” basically means that I’ll work alongside you to help you learn everything you need to know about what meter is, how it all works, and how to fix any potential issues within your story. I’ll comb through your manuscript line-by-line, and explain what is and isn’t working meter-wise. And again, I’ll be there by your side to offer examples and suggestions along the way. So my clients leave with a polished manuscript AND a new skill set by the time we’re done!
